Return of a DYNASTY?

During the early 1990's August Martin High School's Girl's basketball program was the bench mark in which other NYC programs were measured. Under the leadership of Joel Ascher, the Lady Sky Riders (now named Lady Falcons) won 12 PSAL championships and four state Federation titles, but more importantly, Ascher, helped, at least, 100players to earn a college scholarship.

Upon Ascher's (November 2009) retirement, Mark Williams was promoted from the JV program to "fill" the NYC Legend's shoes. Under the tutelage of Coach Williams, the 2009-2010 team finished 2-12. The following year the Lady Falcons finished with a 7-8record. Entering the 2011-2012 season, a great deal of optimism surrounded the team -largely due to the team's young core group of returnees lead by juniors Evanda Redwood, Xander Burns, and sophomore Torri Richard. The three returning players comprised 3/5's of the 2010-2011 starting team, however, upon the arrival of sophomore Shiclasia Brown did the "buzz" reach a feverish level.

The four players, who trained during the summer months with Team FOOTPRINTZ trainer and former McDonald's All American and NCAA Champion Taliek Brown, were able to bond and add useful tools to their "toolbox" in hopes of making a dent on the NYC scene. As a result, the "4 Horse (Wo)men" lead the 2011-2012 team to a 12-6 (11-5) regular season which earned the Lady Falcons the 28th seed in NYC's PSAL playoff bracket.

After dispatching the School of the Future (NYC) the Lady Falcons defeated the 5th seeded and previously undefeated Townsend Harris team in a victory in which according to some was the, "biggest upset of the playoffs" to date. Next up for the team from South Jamaica - Queens (NY) is the Tottenville Pirates of Staten Island, NY. Stay tuned to see if the Lady Falcons can rekindle the August Martin success of yester-year.
