An Open Letter to my "SUPPORTERS"

Dear AAU Program / High School Coach / Prep School Coach / Handler / Supporter,

Before I begin, I would remind you that you DO NOT owe me anything! I, along with my parents, deserve to be held accountable for ALL that pertains to me and my well being.  However, I would like to take a moment in order to address you.

We first met when I was a young player at a local CYO league. Luckily for me, I caught your eye due to my physical stature, which, as it turns out was more mature than the other players.  You took me under your wing, smiled and even hugged my parents. Although you claimed to being "broke" you bought me my favorite sandwiches and gave me two Gatorades.  This is when you named me, "THE ONE".  #doyouremember

As I grew and started to take basketball seriously other programs/schools/handlers started to come around to the point where you suggested for me and my family to "close ranks" and adopt a "US vs them" mantra. #doyouremember

Once I turned 13 or 14 years old and joined your newly formed AAU team we began to get noticed by sneaker companies.  Our once "mom & pop" AAU team began to compete against the area's best. You started asking me to recruit other players so we can play on a national level.  Sneakers were shipped to you on my behalf. College coaches reached out to you for my services. Then it happen. We earned a sponsorship from a top sneaker company which allowed us a chance to tour the country.  #doyouremember

How about when I wanted to take that biology course to prepare me for college, but you talked me out of it? #doyouremember

It's funny how time moves so fast.  Now, I am a high school senior and I have several colleges interested in my services, but like with the biology course you suggested I take an easier course load in order to remain eligible.  Sadly, I failed a two classes and registered to (re)take them in summer school, but our basketball travel schedule did NOT allow me the chance.  Especially when you told my parents that our sneaker contract required that we win some games and I would make that a reality. #doyouremember

Well, I applaud you on securing that 5 year sneaker contract, adding 5 teams to your federally funded non profit organization and becoming one of the city's most recognized basketball figures.

As you know due to me failing two classes in the spring term of my junior year, I will be forced to decide between a junior college in Nebraska or  a division III school in Texas. As I look back on my senior year, I am proud of my accomplishments mostly namely being named player of the year.  However, I am shocked that the lack of interest I have especially since I am the state's best player. At any rate, last we spoke you promised you will help me with my college selection.  #doyouremember

My mother says, "hello" and "she misses you".  She also said, "she has NOT seen you since the summer travel season ended and you missed ALL for my winter games".  No worries for I told her you were busy with your new gig as regional scout for a national recruiting service.

By the way, I came by the gym to get some shots up, but you were not there and the "new coaches" said, "there was no chance of me working out because your new teams had practice".  Anyway, good luck in your new job and I wish you nothing, but the BEST.

Sincerely,

THE ONE

PS - If you have any gear laying around - try to hook me up.  THANKS
