10 things I wish I knew before entering college

Recently, our Mark Williams spoke to former McDonald's All American and St. John's graduate Raven Farley about topics she wished she had spoke about / thought of during the college recruiting process.

Here are her 10 things she wish she knew before entering college.

1. Style of play. You won’t fit into every system, find out how a team plays and whether or not it aligns with how you play.

2. Build relationships. After college, references and connections matter. Network

3. Be discipline. Constantly work on your game & find ways to improve. Don’t get content with just team practice, it’s not enough.

4. Make academics a priority. After college your gpa matters. Take it seriously.

5. Don’t buy the dream they sell when recruiting. Ask your coach realistically what role they see you playing & how they plan to implement you into their rotation.

6. Compartmentalize. It’s a business. Your bad days shouldn’t affect your effort/ energy on the court.

7. Be a good person all the time, not sometimes. People don’t forget how you treat them.

8. Use the university. Get everything you can possibly get out of your experience. Utilize every resource available

9. Find another hobby. Basketball will drain you, don’t let it be the only thing you have going on.

10. Protect your mental. Adversity will hit, you will be tested in ways you never thought of. Never lose confidence in yourself & grow through everything you go through
