Dear Summer,

Where do I begin?

You and I had a great time, we started out in May/June competing FIREBALL Pro/Am League, generally considered, one of NYC's premier basketball leagues. Our Pro/Am team had to compete against regional powerhouses teams (Big Apple Basketball, NYAC, X-Men, United BK, and Primetime) as well as many European star players and a few with NBA experience. Although, we came up short (semi-finalists), we put NYC on watch as many of our trainees played VERY well throughout the league.

In addition to our Pro/Am team the training wing of our program expanded to international status. Summer, you remember Taliek Brown? The 2000 McDonald's All American, who was the starting PG for UCONN's 2004 National Championship team, well he spent the early part of the summer training in China working with several of the countries rising players as well as players from the country's national basketball league. Then after China, he travelled to Canada where he was charged with organizing and overseeing several youth basketball camps in conjunction with the Halifax Rainmen of the National Basketball League of Canada. Upon returning to the "states", Taliek and Mark - Lead Skills Instructor for Team FOOTPRINTZ - organized FREE Basketball Clinics in the Lefrak City portion of Queens. The program ran for 5 Saturdays at the "Real GOOD Park" and averaged 35 kids per weekend. "I am Lefrak and I wanted to give back to the community that made me who I am. Basketball has made it possible for me to travel worldwide, but many of these kids are just happy to go into Manhattan which is only 25 minutes from their homes. So, since basketball was good to me, i wanted to reach out to today's youth and pass on my knowledge to today's youth", says Taliek.

Locally, our lead skills instructor Mark Williams, armed with an ambitious weekly schedule, worked with many NYC based professional players, but in speaking with him -his involvement with many of the NYC's best scholastic players is what he is most proud of. He had the opportunity to work with players that represent many NYC public and private schools, players that call St. John's Prep, Holy Cross HS, Christ The King HS, Nia Prep, Our Savior New America, Forest Hills HS, Facing History (Park West Campus), Nazareth HS and Flushing HS "home" not to mention several local Middle Schools. "I love to get a phone call from the player's parent saying, 'they just saw a NBA player do the move that we need the night before ' those calls are great because they can see the moves in action and done by NBA players brings it ALL in perceptive" says, Mark.

In short Summer, to our family, you were GREAT! We can only hope, in the future, you are able to treat us just as well (if NOT better) as you did in 2011.

Sincerely,

Team FOOTPRINTZ
