July 6, 2010

What’s going on everyone? I am sorry I have not been able to reach out recently, but I have been busy of the last month or so.

Before I begin, I would like to take a moment and acknowledge the life Jay Arrington of Brew Crew. We lost Jay this past week after a long illness that ultimately took his life. He was father figure to many of his players and a founding member of many of the NYC leagues. He will be missed!!!!...

Now, if you are on the NYC basketball scene, you witnessed my team advance to the Final 4 of the Fireball Basketball League by winning the TOM McDONALD division with a 4-1 record. Historically, the Fireball League – “jumpstarts” NYC summer basketball, however, due to construction at the host facility the league was postponed two weeks which allowed teams to revamp their rosters as the playoffs approached.

While earning the number 1 seed, Team FOOTPRINTZ, along the way, defeated Rack Attack of NJ, Bedford Y, B*Fam (sponsored by Boston Celtics’ Nate Robinson), & B.A.B Deuce with it’s only blemish occurring to DJ Clue’s team.

As Team FOOTPRINTZ team entered the semi finals, they faced the defending champions Money Train led by Sundiata “Yatta” Gaines of the Utah Jazz, Cory Underwood of the NBA DLeague, Darren Phillip of ACB of the Spanish League, Antawn Dobie- an overseas veteran and streetball legend John Strickland. Team FOOTPRINTZ fell behind as much as 17 points, but fought back and took the lead (2 points) with 8.8 seconds remaining only to fall victim to a 3 point play by Darren Phillip.

I can only imagine how the game looked from a spectator standpoint, but from my vantage point it was HEARTBREAKING, a LEARNING EXPERIENCE, and I believe “we let one slip away”, but my hat goes off to the Money Train team.

In addition, to being a FATHER, an Executive Director of Team FOOTPRINTZ, Inc, a teacher and GM/coach to the Fireball team, I partnered with NIKE and their Skills Trainers, as we trained several local college (professional) players as they prepared for their summer workouts. My relationship with NIKE has provided me with additional insight as I enhance my development as a basketball skills coach and also has increased my visibility within the college (professional) sector. GREAT PARTNERSHIP…!!!...

Thanks to ALL the players who have help shape Team FOOTPRINTZ and be sure to follow Team FOOTPRINTZ on twitter @teamfootprintz and also check out the Facebook fan page (TeamFOOTPRINTZ) as well as our youtube.com page (teamfootprintz)...
