TREADMILL: Going NO where FAST






As a basketball player for the past 20 years I have had the good fortune to have met alot of people as well as see alot of  interesting things related to the sport as whole.  Recently, as "basketball skills trainer", I have been more aware of player's "desire" (wish) to get better.  Many players hire what they believe to be basketball trainers to enhance their skill set.  These trainers have good intentions.  They dazzle their clients with "tricky" ball handling drills (hand eye drills) or challenge a clients' "toughness" by YELLING instead of explaining or finally, they simply run their clients "to death", which clients & parents, alike, believe sweat equals success.  All the while the client's skill set is "stuck on a treadmill".

Not that I am the end all end of basketball skill development, but it is my belief that in order to  enhance a players' skill set the "trainer's" drills must be relevent to game like situations, especially on the professional level. Having players perform drills that never occur in a game is pointless!  When was the last time during a game has anyone performed a full court 3 man weave?  Where one passer runs behind another player as they advance the ball up the court.  Instead I would rather see a "trainer" or "coach" instruct their client(s) or team to perform the 3 on 2-2 on 1 drill where the drill, itself, is more game related.

In short, many players' skill set will never improve unless the drills they are instructed to perform can translate to game success if not a clients' game will forever be "stuck on a treadmill"...

Drill of the day---- "100 in 150"

1 shooter...1 basketball...1 or 2 rebounders...shooter must earn 100 points in 150 seconds (2 1/2 minutes)...each shot made its face value is added...example...3 points equal 3 points & 2 points equal 2 points...GREAT drill early in the workout!!!...
