Team FOOTPRINTZ falls to N.Y.A.C in FIREBALL @ Baruch College

Entering the playoffs as the 2nd (second) seed of the Lonnie Owens division- Team FOOTPRINTZ faced New York Athletic Club (NYAC) – the 3rd (third) seed of the Chris Sandy bracket. Known throughout the city for their 3 point shooting, NYAC used a different approach as they entered the much anticipated match up against Team FOOTPRINTZ in a game that set the standard for the Fireball playoffs.

Instead of relying on the perimeter players, NYAC, coached by Milton Lee, employed a bruising style which resulted in many 2nd shot opportunities and a lot of “hustle points” in the paint. “They won a lot of those 50/50 balls”, says Team FOOTPRINTZ’ Coach Mark Williams. “Their energy was contagious, but we matched their intensity, in particular, in the 2nd half and actually took the lead. It was very good game, but, ultimately, we were not able to overcome their sense of urgency ”.

In the hard fought lost, Team FOOTPRINTZ received solid contributions from- Reggie Freeman (University of Texas), Coleman Collins (Virginia Tech), Ron Yates (St. Peter’s), Jarrid Frye (Sacred Heart), Pete Mulligan (Manhattan College), Mark McCarroll (University of Pittsburgh), Sheiku Kabba (Providence College), Andrew Washington (University of Delaware), Andre Duncan (University of Albany), John Thomas (St. Francis – NY), Marvin McCullough (Iona College), and Anali Okoloji (Benjamin Banneker HS).

In their 2nd year of participating in Fireball – known throughout the NYC scene as the preamble to the summer basketball leagues - Team FOOTPRINTZ finished the regular season with a 4-1 record. “We lost, which happens, but our advancement into the playoffs is, without a doubt, a step in the right direction. I would like to thank ALL of the players that played the 2009 Fireball season and I look forward to competing in the 2010 edition”, says Coach Williams.
